  1. (warm-up) The abbreviation “i.i.d.” is used several times throughout the text. What does it mean?

    1. In footnote 2, the authors mention that counting the cases with delta<0 is equivalent to counting the cases with delta>2*delta(x). What are the conditions for this equivalence?
    2. Later in the article, the authors reorder all tested pairs so that delta>0. Do the assumptions from part 2.2 and footnote 2 still hold?
